PREMISE & BASICS
What is Isekai?
No, I meant – what’s isekai?ISEKAI: I Thought I Was Dead Meat, But Now I’m The Hero Of Another World, So What Gives?! (or just Isekai, if you don’t have the time to type all that) is a panfandom, comm-based jamjar. The mechanics and world of the game are heavily inspired by the anime Log Horizon as well as the isekai genre in general. Characters who have met their ends in their own world suddenly find themselves waking up in the mysterious fantasy world of Septerra. From there, characters can investigate the mystery of Septerra and how they ended up there… or not! While there will be oodles of mystery and adventure, plus questing and dungeons galore, ultimately what your character does with this second chance of theirs is entirely up to you.
In practical terms, this means that the game is built from the ground up to allow a balance between adventuring and questing and slice-of-life downtime, with a big focus on player and character agency and letting the actions of characters have long-term effects on the game world and NPC population.
Who can I play in Isekai?Oh. Oh!
Isekai (Japanese: 異世界, lit. "another world") is a popular subgenre of Japanese fantasy stories that involve a regular person from Earth being transported (usually via reincarnation) into a fantastical new world. Often, these otherworlders will be gifted some kind of incredible or unique cheat ability that will give them the upper hand on getting started on living life in their new world. Isekai (the jamjar) takes elements primarily from the “trapped in a virtual world” and “trapped in an RPG fantasy” variants of the genre, both mechanically and in terms of its story.
This sound great, but the character I want to play isn’t dead…Isekai accepts characters from most canons and types of media! We have a soft age cap of thirteen, just because of the nature of the entry method, but we will also happily accept characters below thirteen if you can make a case for them in the “suitability” section of the app. Basically, we just don’t want to be slaughtering Actual Children willy nilly.
Getting into specifics, as well as characters straight from canon, we also accept the following:
- AUs (Canon AUs, CRAUs)
- Original characters (From original universes, fandom OCs are judged on a case-by-case basis)
- Canon OCs (silent/customizable protagonists are taken on a case-by-case basis)
Characters who require a large amount of headcanon to be playable (one-off side characters, characters from unfinished canons, etc) are allowed and will generally be judged on a case-by-case basis.
We allow two versions of each character to exist in the game at the same time, but each version must be different in some way; i.e. a canon version, an alternate universe version, or a version that has come from a previous game. This also isn’t a hard rule, but we generally ask that, as a courtesy to other players, you give a heads up to the player currently in game if you plan on apping a double.
Isekai does not accept the following types of characters:
- Characters without a mostly human level of sapience and/or ability to communicate.
- Characters from canons that are exclusively sexual/pornographic.
- Characters from canons that have not been translated into English.
Finally, we also ask that players keep appropriateness for the setting and tone of the game in mind when testing out potential picks. Characters who are hell-bent on racism, homophobia, transphobia or other such instances of Uncool Behaviour will likely not be a good fit for Isekai.
Okay, I’m sold! How do I app?Not to worry! WE CAN ALWAYS FIX THAT.
…That is to say, if your character doesn’t have a death in canon, you’re free to cook one up for them if you’d like to app them to the game. Additionally, if your character does already have a canon death but you’d prefer to take them from a different canon point, we’re happy for you to invent a new death for them to allow this to happen.
Something that's important to keep in mind though is that due to the nature of the premise, you cannot canon update in Isekai! So make sure to pick your canon point carefully.
Ultimately, all that we as is for players to keep in mind appropriateness of tone when picking character deaths. And, of course, if you're really stuck, you can always just have a truck (or other appropriate vehicular transportation) come out of nowhere and take them out. Always a classic!
It’s simple enough! Give our info pages a read over (including the rest of this one!) and they’ll tell you all about the app process, as well as what you can expect from your character’s new life a hero in another world. We can’t wait to see you in Septerra!
RULES & CONSIDERATIONS
Respect & Consideration
Content & WarningsThe number one (and uh, basically only) rule here at Isekai is quite simply: Please Don’t Be A Dick. While we understand that not everyone is going to be bosom buddies by virtue of being in the same game, we do want players to keep in mind that roleplay is something we do for fun and therefore, we would like to be sure that everyone does, in fact, have fun!
For that reason, we ask that you treat your fellow players and the mods with the same amount of courtesy and respect that you’d like to receive in turn. Keep in mind the basic rules of etiquette in RP and refrain from godmodding, infomodding or otherwise going out of your way to make other people’s experience in Isekai an unpleasant one.
If we find players to be in violation of this rule, or otherwise contributing to making the game an unsafe or unfun environment, then we may issue a warning or in extreme (and hopefully rare!) circumstances, we may issue an outright ban.
If you’re having issues with another player you’ve been unable to resolve among yourselves, please don’t hesitate to come to the mods. We’re here to help!
While Isekai does not have any kind hard rating in terms of content, we do not intend for the game to be consistently grimdark or to stray into upsetting or NSFW territory on the regular. Due to the nature of the premise, you should anticipate lots of discussion of death coming into the game, as well as potential talk of unreality. Logs and events will come with additional content warnings where appropriate and players will never be forced to take part in aspects of the game they might be uncomfortable with.
Additionally, the nature of a panfandom game may mean that there will be potentially disturbing material from time to time. We don't intend to excessively restrict what players can discuss and play out in Isekai, but we do expect players to appropriately warn when instances of disturbing or upsetting content come up in threads. We trust you guys to use your own discretion and basically just be courteous to anyone who might be wanting to avoid discussions of things they may find upsetting.
Our one hard restriction, content-wise, is that we ask that players do not play out NSFW content in the game itself. You’re free to set it up and fade to black then take it elsewhere, we’d just prefer you to not play it out on the comm!
This is optional, but we also encourage players to include opt-out posts in their journals if their character or canons involve content they know to be upsetting. This is so people can give you a heads-up in advance if they’d like to avoid this sort of subject matter.
If you run into any problems with this regard, don’t hesitate to let the mods know.
APPS, DROPS & ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS
How do I app to Isekai?
How many characters can I app? It’s a pretty simple process!
We open reserves in anticipation of apps on the 20th of every month. Since we do not accept app or reserve challenges, if you’re really itching to make sure you get to play someone in Isekai, reserving them is the way to go!
Either way, apps will then open on the 23rd and remain open for the next seven days. Once apps are closed, app judgments will be sent out! You’ll receive one of three responses:
- Accepted: You got in! Your acceptance form will have some housekeeping for you to do, such as joining the comms and being added to the taken list. Get all that done within the timeframe listed in the acceptance form and you’re ready to go!
- Revision Request: Almost, but not quite! Revision requests mean that there’s something about your app that needs fixing before we can accept it. Your revision request will outline what needs fixing and how soon you need to get your revisions in. Once that’s done, you should be good to go!
- Rejection: Rejections go out in the event of a character not being an appropriate fit for the game or because there are too many things that need fixing with your app for just a revision request.
How can I drop from the game? Can I app back if I do?The current character cap per player is three characters and you may only app one character per app cycle. We don’t currently allow for players to negotiate for more character slots. We also ask that, if you plan to app two characters who are canonmates, that you detail on your application how you plan to handle this in game – and please be aware that we may choose to reject your application should we feel two canonmates are too close to be played by the same person.
What about activity check? How does that work in Isekai?Simple as pie! Just scoot over to the drop page and let us know. You have a few options as to what happens to your character when you’re no longer playing them and once your drop form is submitted, we’ll remove you from the list of Taken characters.
If you’re dropped from the game and are now looking to app back, that’s easy too! We have a re-app form on the application page especially for those circumstances, so just fill that out as instructed, submit it and wait for the app judgments to go through.
What are the activity requirements for Isekai?AC is run automatically by the mods on the last day of the month using ACSavior. Once AC has been processed, a post will go up on the first day of the new month outlining the AC results. Characters who have failed AC due to insufficient activity will be issued with a strike and listed in the AC results. Failing to meet AC requirements for two months in a row, without taking a hiatus or otherwise speaking to the mods, will result in the character being swept from the game.
What happens if I can't make activity for one month?Activity requirements for Isekai are any one of the following proofs:
10 comments on the log comm 15 comments on the network comm An open post/mingle with at least 5 comments from the OP character Characters who are newly apped as of the most recent app cycle or characters who are on hiatus are exempt from AC. However, if a character apps into the game and does not make any comments to any of the IC comms during their first month, they will be removed from the game, regardless of AC exemption.
I need to take a break! How do I go on hiatus? As listed above, characters who do not meet the monthly activity requirements will automatically be issued a strike. Said strike will be cleared the next month, so long as you meet the AC requirements. Otherwise, you will be swept from the game.
If there are extenuating circumstances around you not being able to make AC then please speak to the mods and we will do our best to work with you!
Just let us know on the hiatus post that you’re going to be gone and how long for. You’ll be given a pass on activity for your hiatus period, but only as long as you let us know what your expected hiatus timeframe is. You’ll have a few options as to what your character might be doing during your hiatus and they can be found on the hiatus page itself.
Please note that if a player is found to be abusing the hiatus system to skip out on activity check and squat on their character then the mods will discuss their activity with them and issue a strike. In extreme circumstances (extensive abuse of hiatus and extended squatting), a player may be removed from the game.
